Last week of the transfer...my goodness! These past 5 weeks have gone by so quickly and I cannot believe that it´s almost April! Time always goes by quickly when you are busy and happy though.
Things are going really well here in Madrid. The weather has been dreamy (minus today) and I got my first missionary suntan of the year! Holla. Backpack stripes down the sides of my neck...super cool. My companion and I even gathered up enough courage to go running this morning at 7am. The temperature was perfect! I´m loving Spring.
The work has been going really well! We started teaching the brother and sister in-law of our recent convert, Danny. Remember him? He got baptized in December and his family really didn´t want anything to do with the church. As time went by, however, they began seeing the changes in Danny and began asking him more and more questions about the church. Well, we had our first lesson with them last week and it went SO WELL. The spirit helped out a ton and all we had to do was testify and open the scriptures. We talked about the power of the Book of Mormon and a few of the key doctrinal differences between our beliefs and their traditional catholic beliefs. It still amazes me what happens when we start testifying of the Book of Mormon. We´ve been studying a lot about how we can use the Book of Mormon to answer any question or resolve any doubts. I actually learned from my last companion and it´s been amazing.
For example, Eli (Danny´s sister in-law) asked us why we didn´t believe in baptism for little babies. We opened to Moroni 8 and read a few verses about how little children are perfect and sinless.
11 And their little children need no repentance, neither baptism. Behold, baptism is unto repentance to the fulfilling the commandments unto the remission of sins.
12 But little children are alive in Christ, even from the foundation of the world; if not so, God is a partial God, and also a changeable God, and a respecter to persons; for how many little children have died without baptism!
After we read these verses Eli lit up and said, "That makes so much sense! I always wondered why we baptize babies but when a child passes away without baptism we say that they become angels in heaven." It will be little by little with them, but I can already see the Spirit working within their hearts.
It´s been a huge testimony builder to me to see the power of the Book of Mormon in action. I am so grateful to have both the Bible and the Book of Mormon because together we have the fullness of the Gospel! I think I took this so much for granted before my mission and I am so thankful for my testimony that grows brighter and brighter each day.
Pray for Carlos and Eli! They are wonderful. They are making us yummy food from Venezuela tonight and I am sooo excited.
Our other investigators and recent converts are doing well, too! My companion rocks. She´s so Italian and I love it. Ask us how many different types of pasta sauces and noodles we have in our kitchen...not even a joke. Pasta fo eva.
We receive transfer calls this Saturday night! Next week I´ll let you know what happens. There is a pretty good chance I´ll stay here in my area. I´ve only been here 3 transfers and normally we stay for at least 4. Of course, I´ll be happy with anything though!
Have a great week! I love you all. Dad, Chase, and Sky thanks so much for supporting mom last week! I bet her talk went so well and I bet she made all the older ladies cry. Mom is the best.
Love,
Hermana Scheu
